FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Paul Fields: “Untitled” His last collectionPaul Fields a Louisville sculptor and teacher of singular standing past away last year from a life of great passion and hard living. Paul’s widow Vicki Fields will show the last of his work at an exhibition at Kaviar Forge and Gallery, beginning May 27, though July 30, 2005. There will be an opening reception at the gallery on each of three FAT Friday’s May 27, June 24, and July 29 from 6-9 PM. Paul started his artistic career by apprenticing with the late artist and foundry owner Barney Bright while working as a Louisville Firefighter. Later he studied stone carving in Piestrasanta Italy. When Paul returned he helped establish the first artist in residency program at Bernheim Forest, working there for 5 years and leaving his first monumental sculpture as part of the forest ambience. Later he established a studio on Frankfort Ave, in Louisville and moved next to Kaviar Forge where he created wonderful monuments for the Louisville Zoo, School for the Blind, University of Indiana SE and lastly the Home for the Innocence which was completed by a long list of students who have worked with Paul throughout the years. This will be a unique opportunity to view and purchase a fragment of Louisville’s artist history. Included in this collection are various carved stone benches, environmentally inspired stone birdbaths, and numerous abstract figures carved in wood, stone or cast in bronze that Paul is noted for. Paul Fields will be having a major Retrospective of his long career in art at three major Kentucky art institutions this fall. Included will be Louisville Visual Art Association, Bernheim Forest and the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft.
