Louisville Artist Craig Kaviar Receives Historic Preservation Award September 11, 2007-- For the past 22 years sculptor Craig Kaviar has been changing a former neglected property into a cultural landmark with studio, art gallery and sculpture garden. Slowly, with his own hands, and those of many apprentices over time, he has transformed a very run down Historic property into an artist statement. He was awarded The Friendliest Facade Award for "outstanding landscaping and adaptive Restoration of Traditional , Historic Structure in Clinton's by the Clifton Community Council Tuesday night at 7 pm at the Clifton Center September 11, 2007. Mr. Kaviar's artwork has received many awards over the years including: several from the Kentucky Society of Landscape Archects; the Boston Society of Landscape Architects; and the American Instute of Architects. His metalworking has been documented in many books and magazines, as well as the HGTV show "Modern Masters". Look for articles in upcoming issues of "Kentucky Homes and Gardens" and "Southern Accents". His work was exhibited in the US Pavilion at the World's Fair in Aichi, Japan. Al the while he has decreased the size of his carbon footprint by running the forge with waste vegetable oil. For the past five years Mr. Kaviar has served on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft and chairs their Artist Advisory Committee. He is planning Flamenco At The Forge , an event in which his studio will be transformed into an old world cafe, blending the performing arts with the visual in connection with Flamenco Louisville, for the benefit of Kentuckians For The Commonwealth on Oct 26, 2007, and again for the Ohio Valley Creative Energy on Feb 15, 2008. The Gallery is open Wednesday – Friday 12- 6 pm, and Saturday 12- 4 pm. The Gallery features the work of many artists in metal, jewelry, wood , glass, clay, painting and sculpture. The current exhibit is "Steve Eilers: A Retrospective History". It runs through October 7. Then look for "Laura Ross – Past, Present and Richard" Oct 18 – Dec 1. For More Information Contact:
