Sculptor Craig Kaviar Receives Design Award from the Kentucky Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects

The award winning handrail was designed by Landscape Architect J.P. Shadley (www.shadleyassociates.com.) and was forged by Louisville sculptor Craig Kaviar and they will be receiving a Design Award during the Kentucky Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects annual awards banquet on Saturday, January 29^{th in Frankfort, KY. This fine handrail / fence sits on the edge of a bluff overlooking the Ohio River and accents the garden of a private residence. Seventy-eight feet of hand forged iron leaves and branches, hot dip galvanized and patinaed to look like weathered bronze, with a bronze cap rail; this work of art creates a peaceful backdrop for the fountains and pool. This project also won an award from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects and was featured on Modern Masters on HGTV.}

Kaviar and Shadley have collaborated on other award winning landscape designs including the entrance gate to the Woodford Reserve Distillery. This handsome gate is forged from iron and bronze with gold leafed corn tassels standing 7.5’ high and 35’ wide. This gate won the 1997 Artistic Award from the American Galvanizing Association, and a Design Award from the Kentucky Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Craig Kaviar has had a shop on Frankfort Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky for twenty years, creating custom forged metal work. He opened a gallery in 2004, featuring his own metal work, as well as the artwork of other prominent regional artists. The gallery is located at 1718 Frankfort Ave. with windows that look out over the shop where Kaviar creates his one of a kind, and custom artwork. The gallery is open from 1pm – 6pm Thursday and Friday, 11am – 5pm on Saturdays or by appointment.
